Young Thug’s “So Much Fun” proves to be so much fun!
Young Thug is back in 2019 with the release of “So Much Fun” which serves as his first solo project since his 2017 project titled, “Beautiful Thugger Girls.” In those two years, Thugger has gone on to drop “SUPER SLIMEY,” a joint project with Future in October 2017 as well as “Slime Language” in August 2018, with artists he’s signed to his label, Young Stoner Life Records, most notably 2018 breakout rapper Gunna. Thug, known for his distinctive cadence and vocal range along with his unique flow hopes to add to his legend with his first release of 2019. One of the biggest hits of 2019, “The London” by Young Thug featuring J. Cole and Travis Scott serves as the only single to the rollout of “So Much Fun” as well as the last track on the album. The album in total is comprised of 19 songs over the duration of 62 minutes of music, with Future, Gunna, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Duke, 21 Savage, Doe Boy, Lil Keed, Quavo, Juice WRLD, NAV, J. Cole, and Travis Scott all making an appearance on the album. Many of these artists we’ve heard go well with Young Thug, leading to my anticipation for this project. Now, let’s get to the review!

Must Listen Songs
The concept of Must Listen songs are the songs that would give the best overview of the album as a whole. Songs that stand out for reasons to be described in the pending descriptions of the songs.
“What’s the Move” ft. Lil Uzi Vert
Track nine on “So Much Fun” features Lil Uzi Vert and is produced by Ayo Chef and BL$$D. The song starts with Young Thug singing over a simple snap and nature-filled beat before the bass and high hats come in. Both instruments leave some space between each note which allows for the vocals to grab attention much easier. Both artists use their superb flows on their verses, but the story of the song is the hook Young Thug uses multiple cadences to deliver.
“I’m Scared” ft. 21 Savage & Doe Boy
21 Savage & Doe Boy make an appearance on this twelfth track produced by Pi’erre Bourne. The beat has Pi’erre Bourne’s signature fast-paced high hat patterns under a wind chime-like melody and a slow soft bass. Young Thug and 21 Savage both deliver quality verses which are normal, but Doe Boy’s verse stands out to me because of the quality of it from a new artist. Also, that “oh, really” adlib at the end of his verse is fire.
“Cartier Gucci Scarf” ft. Lil Duke
The thirteenth track, produced by Prezzley P and Jayrich Laplaya is a bass-driven beat with two sets of high hats, one coming in faster than the other. Here Thug gives us a new aggressive cadence, almost mimicking the cadence Lil Duke will use on the second verse. This ability to mimic almost anyone in the rap game sets Thugger apart from a lot of rappers. The catchiness of the hook also helps the quality of the song with Thug repeating “wipe the Cartiers off with the Gucci scarf” to start the hook and give it the momentum it needs.
Final Review
Young Thug’s “So Much Fun” proves to be so much fun! There’s nothing particularly new Young thug shows us throughout the album, Thug simply shows off his ability to switch cadences and flows at the snap of a finger once again. The beat selection from producers like Pi’erre Bourne, Wheezy, and others stood out to me. The album can feel a bit long, however, Young Thug successfully minimizes the feeling with quality featured artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Quavo and Juice WRLD that prove to come at a timely rate. Overall, this album does nothing but solidify the legend of Young Thug in the listener’s minds as we wait for another project from Thugger.
