Lil Uzi Vert's "LUV vs. The World 2" Adds To His Legacy

Lil Uzi Vert's "LUV vs. The World 2" Adds To His Legacy

After finally releasing his highly anticipated project “Eternal Atake,” Lil Uzi Vert is back a week later with the release of “LUV vs The World 2,” which serves as a deluxe to “Eternal Atake” as well as a sequel to his highly acclaimed project from 2016, “Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World.” With two drops in consecutive weeks, Lil Uzi Vert keeps his promise to fans that he’ll be dropping music like it’s 2016 once again, hopefully making up for his two and a half year absence. Stretching a total of 14 tracks for an additional 43 minutes, “Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World 2” features, Chief Keef, 21 Savage, Future, Young Thug twice, Gunna, Lil Durk, Young Nudy and NAV.

 The Standouts

The songs that would give the best overview of the album as a whole. Songs that stand out for reasons to be described in the pending descriptions of the songs.

“Myron”

The first track on Lil Uzi’s “LUV vs. The World 2” produced by Supah Mario and Oogie Mane, is one of the songs Lil Uzi teased prior to the release of “Eternal Atake.” The beat starts with a high pitched percussion melody before a piano is added to the mix for the first hook. The bass and high hat combination come in during the first half of the first verse before being taken out to return for the second half of the second verse. Lil Uzi doesn’t change his cadence much keeping a soft rapping cadence throughout the song until the bridge after the second verse where he appears to sound more “rockstar.”

“Bean (Kobe)” ft. Chief Keef

Produced by Pi’erre Bourne, track three starts off with an intense bass that sets the tempo of the song, through the Chief Keef intro. The tempo of the bass is switched with a high hat pattern for the Lil Uzi’s verse with a melody that sounds similar to the melody of Lil Uzi’s “Do What I Want.” The flows used by both rappers start off fast and end with both rappers dragging out syllables for cadence. My personal favorite part of the song comes at the end when Pi’erre Bourne chops the beat up a bit with Chief Keef harmonizing on it.

“Moon Relate”

The eighth track on “LUV vs. The World 2” produced by Danny Wolf and Kid808 is a weird beat, that Uzi skates on perfectly. The beat is rigid with a set bass and high hat combo that proves to be interesting and predictable with a melody that gives off a dark vibe despite Lil Uzi’s high pitched cadence throughout the song.

“Come This Way”

“Come This Way” serves as track nine on Lil Uzi Vert’s “LUV vs. The World 2” produced by Lyle Leduff. The chill vibe of the track comes from the beat that starts with the simple piano melody before the soft lagging bass comes in, followed by the simple soft bass and high hat pattern. On the verses, Lil Uzi switches his cadence at will from his regular rap cadence to his singing cadences before returning back to his chill rap cadence. The hook sets this song as a standout because it’s easy to follow flow and repetition of “come this way” towards the end of each hook.

“Got The Guap” ft. Young Thug

Produced by Outtatown and Brandon Finessin, track thirteen starts with a pop-like melody until the bass and high hat combination comes in. The beat is dominated by the bass but not to the point where all other instruments in the beat are ignored. The softness of this beat is perfectly complemented by the soft cadence provided by Lil Uzi Vert and the Young Thug simply being Young Thug.

Final Review

Overall, “Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World 2,” is a significant change of pace from “Eternal Atake.” While “Eternal Atake” felt more planned out, having a flow from song to song with well-executed skits, “Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World 2” felt more spontaneous, like a bunch of good songs slapped together to create a deluxe portion. This is typically what a deluxe is for many projects, however, Lil Uzi Vert taking the deluxe portion of “Eternal Atake” and naming it “Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World 2,” sets expectations really high for the music that was delivered. While the music Lil Uzi drops from “LUV vs. The World 2,” is exceptional, the project leaves the listener yearning for a better flow from song to song.  The production over the course of this project mostly done by the producer group Working on Dying for five songs and Pi’erre Bourne for four songs was executed well. “LUV vs. The World 2” adds more evidence about Lil Uzi’s ability to make consistently great music, however, the music doesn’t live up as a sequel to the legendary of “Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World,” simply because of the significantly different vibes from both projects with “Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World” being a softer vibe compared to “LUV vs. The World 2” which produces a heavy trap vibe.
