Lil Tecca's "We Love You Tecca" solidifies his cadence built sound!

Coming off the hype from his hit song “Ransom,” Lil Tecca looks to prove his success to be sustainable with the release of his debut project, “We Love You Tecca.” Lil Tecca who hails from Queens, NY made a huge splash with his hit song “Ransom” in June. Since then, Ransom has catapulted to be a top-five record on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and only to be remixed featuring a verse from Juice WRLD in mid-August. Between the release of “Ransom” and the “Ransom” remix, Lil Tecca has been busy, dropping six singles in that span. Five of the six appear on the tracklist for this seventeen track, 41-minute long project with the only feature being Juice WRLD on the “Ransom” remix. Now without further ado, let’s get to the review!

The songs on this album divided into two lanes that are prevalent throughout the project and scored on a 1.5 scale. (0 = trash, .5 = not for me, 1 = good, 1.5 = a standout)

Must Listen Songs

The concept of Must Listen songs are the songs that would give the best overview of the album as a whole. Songs that stand out for reasons to be described in the pending descriptions of the songs.

“Sidenote”

Produced by Pi’erre Bourne, track three on Lil Tecca’s “We Love You Tecca,” is a slow-paced beat with the characteristic fast-paced high hats of a Pi’erre Bourne beat, however, turned down to minimize the fast-paced impact they may have. The bass serves as the tempo setting instrument, changing intensity and lagging at times slowing down the feel of the song. This song has a more traditional structure compared to many of the songs on the album, a two-verse structure with a hook separating each verse. Tecca’s flow, as well as cadence, fits well on the song changing the cadence based on the intensity of the beat.

“Senorita”

The fifteenth track produced by Chapo, CashMoneyAP, and YoungKio is a fast-paced beat established by the tempo of the high hats and drum-like bass. Tecca spits with a fast-paced flow while still leaving room for the short cadence switches between each line. Here Tecca again shows a traditional two verse, hook separating song structure, however, both verses are eight lines max compared to the sixteen line hook that appears three times.

Final Review

Lil Tecca’s “We Love You Tecca” is a project that solidifies Tecca’s cadence built sound. There’s not much versatility throughout the album, with the most versatility coming in the selection of fast-paced beats versus slow beats that sometimes have a dancehall vibe to them. It’s clear the formula with Lil Tecca’s music is a catchy beat with a long hook and short verses or sometimes just one standard length verse. This doesn’t do much for me from a playback standpoint however, the music does sound great and consistent throughout which is to be applauded. I would like to see Tecca take more risks on his next album to avoid being boxed into this sub-genre of Hip-Hop. One direction I would like to see him embrace more is the dancehall type records such as “Shots” and “Love Me.” It’s clear Lil Tecca has talent, however, does he have the versatility to rise above the average into Hip-Hop superstardom? Only time will tell.

Raw Score: 15/17
