A Review of Future's "BEASTMODE 2"

A Review of Future's "BEASTMODE 2"

Initial Thoughts:

SUPER FUTURE, FIRE MARSHALL, ASTRONAUT! With 2017 being the typical busy year for Future, it would be no surprise that 2018 is shaping up to be a busy year for him as well. In 2017, he dropped two solo projects in two weeks titled, "FUTURE" and "HNDRXX," a joint project with Young Thug titled, "SUPER SLIMEY." So far this year he has been on every song from the D.J. Esco project, "KOLORBLIND," and now he just dropped "BEASTMODE 2 on July 6th." Future being on every song on "KOLORBLIND," gives me the comfort to count "KOLORBLIND" towards Future's 2018 discography. Now let's take a look at the track list, "BEASTMODE 2" gives us a total of nine songs, out of which there is only one feature coming from Young Scooter. The project is a total of 31 minutes long with all beats produced by Zaytoven. The first "Beast Mode" project was eventually followed up by "DS2" arguably Future's most successful solo project. I'm not saying the same may happen for the eventual Future project we are expecting later this summer but, I just found that to be interesting. Let's get to the review! 👂🏾

Review 👂🏾

WIFI LIT
"WIFI LIT" is your standard Future song, over a Zaytoven beat. Nothing new really sticks out in this song for me except for it being the standard Future has set for himself.
+1

CUDDLE MY WRIST
Another standard Future song. There's nothing about this song that blows me away either.
+ 5

RACKS BLUE
Say it with me readers... "Another standard Future song." This time over the calm piano Atlanta beat that we have come to associate Future with.
+.5

31 DAYS
Looks like by the time this review is done, you will have the words "another standard Future song" stuck in your head. This song sounds different from the first three songs. "31 Days" is more of a singing Future song than the first three.
+.5

RED LIGHT
This is a song that stands out to me. There is more substance to the content in this song versus the first four. I think Future knows it too, Future is singing his heart out on this song. This is the best song to me so far.
+1.5

DOH DOH
We have reached the lone feature on this project as Young Scooter, gives us a verse. I'd like to amend my statement, This is the best song on the project to me so far... The Young Scooter verse was fire and Future's flow to start off his verse was great and he finished it off strong. I really like this song.
+1.5

WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT
Back to the standard Future songs. However, I enjoy this beat and the adlibs on it as well. This project gets better the more you listen to it in my eyes.
+1

SOME MORE
I like the flow of this song. A little weird I know, but, I like the raspy Future voice the best. I think the sound of Future's voice contributes to how much I enjoy a Future song. The flow in this song mixed with the beat contributes to how much I like this song.
+1

HATE THE REAL ME
A standard Future song to close it out. Although I thought the content of the song was important, the feel of the song wasn't anything new to me either. It was a good song to close out the project.
+1

BEASTMODE 2

Raw Score: 6/9
Quality Score: 8.5/9

This project was your average Future project. That being said, an average Future project is still a very good project overall. It gets a little repetitive in the first four songs, simply because there's nothing different about them to me compared to a lot of Future songs in the past. I had to take off some points for the repetitiveness. I thought the standout songs were "RED LIGHT," "DOH DOH" (featuring Young Scooter), and "SOME MORE." I feel this project was the perfect length and gave us just enough to avoid Future fatigue. There wasn't anything new that came with this project and while it was still good, it didn't have the feel I've gotten from Future projects in the past. Overall a solid project. Listen to "BEASTMODE 2," available on major streaming platforms.
