2020, What To Look For!
It’s 2020, you’re prolly somewhere longing, wondering, “Where is the Rihanna Album? She lied to me.” Now that we’re officially in a new decade, music fans alike are buzzing to hear new music from their favorite artists.
With the last decade ending in a few letdowns, the expectations for the potential drops of 2020 couldn’t be higher. We’re officially on the lookout for albums from Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, Migos, and many more. The first promising signs of life in this new year have started to take shape in the form of Chad Hugo one half of the super-producer duo The Neptunes revealing he and his partner in crime Pharrell Williams have been working HARD. Hugo revealed that the producers have already worked with a wide array of big-name artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Jay-Z, Blink 182 and more. With many more artists like Lil Baby starting to peek their head out of their music hibernation dens, 2020 looks to be a music-packed year.
What will be most interesting about 2020 is how well the A list Hip Hop artists will perform and out of them who already acquired their DaBaby feature. Lil Uzi’s twitter activity has increased dramatically in the last few months and everything is pointing to an “Eternal Atake” release in 2020. Playboi Carti has also been actively talking about his upcoming album “Whole Lotta Red,” notably saying that his goal for the album is to show everyone that he can actually rap. As one of the faces of “mumble rap,” there is no telling what Carti “actually rapping” means, but going off of Carti’s confidence in his ability, “Whole Lotta Red” might be a game-changing album. With Drake coming off one of the weirdest phases in his career, it seems like he’s gonna rejuvenate his Hip-Hop career with the same strategy following being exposed for using a ghostwriter on his 2015 project “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,” a whole lot of Future. After heavy speculation, numerous leaks, and IG posts surrounding a potential second collaboration project, Drake and Future released “Life is Good”, potentially the first single off of their rumored follow up collab album “What a Time to Be Alive 2”. Also somewhat confirmed for this year, is the third chapter of Migos’ Culture saga, “Culture 3.” It is also said that Big Sean may be ready to return with a follow up to his smash mixtape “Detroit,” (released in 2012) titled “Detroit 2.” In a recently posted picture, a whiteboard with song names, potential featured artists like Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Future, and “Detroit 2” on top, slightly hidden in the background sparked lots of excitement. However, the most exciting news is that we’re getting a new album from Lil Wayne in 2020. It was announced that on January 31st, more than 4 years after he initially announced the album’s existence, what will be Weezy F Baby’s 13th studio album, “Funeral” is to be released. With all these announcements and rumors in circulation, one thing is for sure, if all these projects drop this year, 2020 could be one of the best years in music ever.
The world is still waiting for Lil Uzi and Carti to either makeup, or drop an album, and J. Cole’s net worth keeps going up after his Dreamville label released a Director’s Cut (January 16th, 2020) version of the Grammy-nominated album “Revenge of the Dreamers 3." Some other early birds in the 2020s include a surprise album from Eminem, “Music to Be Murdered By” (Released January, 17th 2020), a potential career-changing album for Moneybagg Yo “Time Served” (Released January 17th, 2020) and DaBaby’s marquee artist Stunna 4 Vegas “Rich Youngin’” (Released January 17th, 2020). On January 17th, with the help of frequent collaborator Jon Brion, Mac Miller’s family released “Circles,” (Released January 17th, 2020) the second album in Mac’s intended two album set, “Swimming in Circles” and bittersweet final album of Mac’s career.
With 2020 looking to be a packed year in all Genres, and with many artists like DaBaby, Meg Thee Stallion, Lil Nas X and more having something to prove after their monster 2019s. With high risk comes high reward, and many artists are playing in the high stakes game to run the first year of the decade. We’ll see how it goes.
